PIZ DANTER DÖES FORCELES (2929 Altitude)

THE ASCENT

South-eastern saddle and north-western ridge.

The itinerary corresponds almost completely with the previous one, n. 12. Follow it until the center of the high hollow of Büsc da Stlü (Tamples da Füch = flints), turn left and climb up steeper inclines until you reach the ridge saddle on the West of Piz dles Cunturines. From the saddle follow the ridge in direction North-West and reach the peak of Piz Danter Döes Forceles.

Note:

The summit of Piz dles Cunturines, 3064, is the highest elevation of the mountain range. It looks like an enormous rocky dice with a height of approximately 100 m. The mountain has not yet been climbed in winter, even if it has a summer difficulty of grade 1 and 2.

WALKING TIME

3 1/2 - 6 hours

THE DESCEND

Two possibilities:

a) Retrace the ascent itinerary, descending on the summit crest in south-eastern direction, reaching the Tamples da Füch and the continue as in descent itinerary n. 12.

b) Lower easily to the nearby saddle of 2885 m altitude, in direction of the Piz de Lavarela, and then as in descent itinerary n. 12. The direction of the itineraries can be reversed for this tour as well.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES

  • Just like S1; some soft terrain irregularities and hollows. The descent is free
  • The slope is more marked (30° ÷ 35°). It is not always easy to proceed in a straight line; it is necessary to bend more often, the terrain opens giving a certain degree of route choice
  • Good skier: he can confidently engage in S3 descends; he can manage descends ot the higher difficulty type as well, as long as they are not continuous or very long

SUGGESTED EQUIPMENT

  • Ski skins

PIZ PAROM (2953 Altitude)

PIZ PAROM

THE ASCENT

Eastern side and north-eastern ridge.

It is a varied and interesting tour. Highly rewarding and not difficult, even in the last section of the crest.

As in itinerary n. 12 until the alpine hut at Gran Fanes, then turn right (East) on the steep incline in direction of a first saddle South of the Sas dai Beć. After reaching it, carefully evaluate the snow conditions. When the snow is settled and very safe, it is possilbe to cross the following hollow (I Ciamp) until a second saddle below the rocks of Piz Stiga; if the snow conditions shouldn't allow for said itinerary, it is adivised to take a wide detour on the left and follow a marked ridge until the saddle.

Leave the skis next to the highest point of said saddle; then, climb on the left on a large and marked inclined ledge, and exit on the saddle between Piz Stiga and Piz Parom and then follow the easy and beautiful north-eastern ridge until to the summit.

WALKING TIME

4 - 6 hours

THE DESCEND

Retrace the ascent itinerary. From the summit, descend on the north-eastern ridge until the saddle between Piz Stiga and Piz Parom. Then, on the inclined ledge, lower to the saddle below, South of the Piz Stiga. Put on the skis and descend on steep but uniform terrain until the next saddle. From here it is even steeper: continue your descent on the following slopes which lie above the hut of Gran Fanes. When at the hut, follow the trail to the Lavarella mountain hut.

  • Ski skins
  • Climber and ice axe

USEFUL SUGGESTIONS

  • Knowledge about the snow features are necessary
  • Tour for compact snow conditions

PIZ STIGA (2787 Altitude)

PIZ STIGA

THE ASCENT

Northern side.

Difficult tour. The descent is very rewarding, but only for expert skiers.

From the Lavarella hut, as in itinerary n. 12 until Jù de Limo. Turn right (direction South-West), pass below the boulders of the northern and western sides of the Sas dai Beć, arriving at the base of the slopes below the the northern side of Piz Stiga. Climb up them with sharp serpentines (only with good snow conditions), thus reaching the steep summit slabs of the mountain.

Leave the skis behind and attack them directly, keeping in proximity of the rocky curbs at the right, until exiting on the ridge. Follow it, remaining on the side of Val Parom, to the summit (beware of potential ledges).

WALKING TIME

2 1/2 - 4 hours

THE DESCEND

Retrace the ascent itinerary until the base of the summit slabs. Put on the skis and start the descent with continuous and sharp turns on the very steep northern slopes. Reach the base and, instead of turning right in direction of the Jù de Limo, descend directly in northern direction until you reach the vicinity of the gully East of Lé Parom. Follow tour n. 9a to the Lavarella mountain hut.

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES

  • Terrain very steep, narrow space, sometimes exposed. it is not possible to bend to one's liking, as the bends are imposed by the terrain difficulty and shape
  • This reaches the limits for an excellent and perfectly trained skier
  • Excellent skier: The S4 descends are not a problem for him. He can manage, with caution, S5 diffiulty levels (it should be remembered that, even for an excellent skier, this represents the very difficulty limit

SUGGESTED EQUIPMENT

  • Ski skins
  • Climber and ice axe

USEFUL SUGGESTIONS

  • Pay attention to the sections with snow blown in by the wind
  • Tour for compact snow conditions
